Off Mains drainage
Where surface water or foul water does not run to a public main additional maintenance or repairs maybe required. We have the experience to deal with all of the following:
- Septic tank cleaning Septic tank replacement
- Sewage treatment plant installation
- Drainage field installation
- Replacement Soakaway installation and replacement
If you have an Septic tank that is having to be emptied more often we offer a free site inspection to investigate and find the cause of the problem. Whether its the outfall blocked or Soakaway system not working as it should we are able to diagnose and give the correct recommendations to get things working.
The rules on domestic sewage systems have now changed meaning that it is a homeowners responsibility to make sure their sewage is going through an adequate treatment process before entering the eco-system .
The General Binding Rules 2020 govern the use of septic tanks and are set by the Environmental Agency in a bid to protect England’s natural water resources such as rivers and streams from pollution.
We can initially check or unblock pipework to the Soakaway, use our specialist equipment to help restore an existing Soakaway or if all else fails replace a Soakaway or re-site a Soakaway. We can carry out a porosity test at the proposed site of a Soakaway which will determine if the ground is suitable for the amount of water it will be taking and would determine the size of the Soakaway required.
Under the new rules it will be necessary for the system to be upgraded or replaced before 1st January 2020; this being the deadline for complying with these new septic tank rules, or when the property is sold if it is before this date.
If you are buying or selling a property with a septic tank it will need to be established whether the system is compliant, if this is unknown we will attend site free of charge and assess the system.
If the property has a septic tank that discharges directly into a watercourse, then the buyer and seller need to agree who will be responsible for upgrading the system If your current system is recognised as causing surface water pollution, then you have three options:
Connect to a mains sewer – if one is close enough,
Install a drainage field – only viable if you have enough suitable land,
replace your septic tank with a more efficient, modern sewage treatment plant
With local, experienced engineers in these aspects of off mains drainage systems we can upgrade the current system to meet regulations quickly with minimal disruption. Contact us for a free site visit and and quotation.
During heavy rain if you notice that your guttering or rainwater downpipes are not draining away as they should or overflowing then you may simply have a blockage somewhwre or potentially have a failing soakaway. We will come to site free of charge and assess the system and advise on the best course of action.
